A small area of land (about 40km x 9km) sandwiched between Israel, Egypt and the Mediterranean sea. Since Israel withdrew it’s settlements from Gaza and stepped up expansion into the West Bank in 2005, a great apartheid wall dividing Gaza and Israel has been constructed. Many people living in Gaza had worked in Israel, crossing the border to go to work. With the construction of the wall and the virtual sealing of the borders, thousands of Palestinians have been forced into poverty. Gaza is the only part of Palestine to be administered by Hamas, the political party which was elected throughout Palestine in the 2006 elections.
